WWYD3 - What would you do III ?

Ok, forgetting for a moment how absolutely killer a King V in Nuclear Yellow with Black Flames would look, which of these two would look best?

#1 - Desert Camo:


#2 - (local favorite) Winter Camo:


I know everyone's lust for Winter Camo graphics, and I am planning to add military-style markings, but they will not be German markings as GMW and Jackson usually use.

I'm also thinking of adding military-style gridmap markings to the Desert camo as the grain of the fabric is showing through (thought it was my finishing/sanding technique on the experimental one, but you can see the weave on the unused material). This would kinda camouflage the weave as satellite grid lines.

Either US Air Force WWII markings or British markings (assuming I can find some) for the Winter camo, and maybe an Armor Division insignia (3rd Infantry?) for the camo. I thought about doing some sort of 'tribute' to the 2nd Combat Group/3rd Infantry that was in Iraq for so long (and getting the royal screw by not getting relieved sooner), but since Jackson just put out that Kelly for that purpose, I decided against that specific design.
I've been looking for militsry insignia online, and have found a few that might work (actual patches used by the military).

I also thought about doing both the Kelly and KV in Desert Camo - perfect for Holy Wars [img]graemlins/headbang.gif[/img] - but I only have enough fabric left to do one guitar. I can probably get 2 guitars out of the Winter Camo, but either way I'm going to do the whole back of the KV - neck and headstock back included.

Camo looks cool, but you'll be sorry when those guitars get lost in the woods!! BTW that's not the camo pattern that they are using anymore. The new one looks like it's pixelated, like crappy compression on an mpeg.

The desert one looks like pixels. I actually never saw the winter camo on anything we had in the USMC. In out Artic Warfare training(possibly the single most grueling thing I have ever been through) we wore green camoflaged gore-tex underneath cotton(gasp) "overwhites" which were exactly what they sound like, a big white jacket and pants that got soaking wet and slowed you down. Of course the USMC Infantry is the last on the list to get new gear.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">He's right - there are two desert cammies now -- the new "pixellated" one Ace is talking about, and then theres the one all the other branches are using which is a hodge-podge of mostly lighter tans. The one you have there is no longer in issue. But that said, it IS cooler than current issue! [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

The US Army also does not use any "winter camo" - they never have (at least not in the 10 years I was there '89 - '99). Just the "overwhites" Ace alluded to. That winter camo you have was usually referred to in the past as "urban camo" due to the grays, etc. Kind of a hip-hop thing from a few years back.

Cool though - personally I like the "winter camo". It'll probably look better too since it's not a rip-stop material like the desert stuff.

Do you play out at all? On stage I think the desert would stand out more,but I dig the winter personally.Well,you could always do one pattern on the front and the other on the back too,so when you pick up the guitar to play with your teeth (or other oral feature) people would see the backside and be impressed [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The pixelated camo is only being used by the USMC, and (at least the woodland camo) works amazingly well. We (Army) are still using the desert camo in the same pattern as the woodland, only in lighter, more deserty (is that a word?) colors.

FYI, the Army SBCT units are going to be getting new camo pretty soon, so I think you should go with that [img]images/icons/cool.gif[/img]

I like the winter camo better. [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] It would look sweet with chrome or black hardware. The desert camo to me seems like it would be better with gold hardware, though. [img]graemlins/drool2.gif[/img]
