Charvel Desolation Soloist DX-1 FR

Hello everyone, i would like to know what are the neck dimensions of the Charvel Desolation series DX-1 FR.

My micrometer is packed away so I can't really give you measurements, but it's a thin D shaped profile. It's a little thinner than a speed neck, but with a little more meat near the sides. Hope that helps a little...

The necks are rough, you'll probably want to get some 0000 steel wool, maybe even some 1500 and 2000 grit wet/dry paper. If you put a little time into it, the neck shape is pretty great. It's kinda similar to the old Jackson CS D profile with an almost flat spot on the back. I had the similar profile on a '83 Student Soloist and a few CS guitars from the mid-90's. The Charvel Model A Journeyman series, from what I remember, is very close to this profile too. I guess it's similar to the old Dinky profile as well, from what others have said.

Oh, I will say, I'm not really a fan of the build quality of the Desolation series. I love the design so much I am considering a DX1 custom shop order. The overall feel, cut of the body and neck heel and neck shape are all pretty great though.

If you really love the design, go for it. Mine does play really well, but that being said... With the prices on the used market for Jackson and Charvel, you can easily get a USA model for the same price or maybe $100-$200 more, at most.

I know it won't cover everything from a sparkly/glittery version of the Desolation, but that sparkle and glitter gloss over cosmetic flaws. If you're OCD, everything will bug you about the guitar. If you're not, they're decent guitars, even though they do have that cookie cutter plasticky feel to them.


Oh, I will have to also say, that for a little bit more money, find one of the Korean World Guitar builds. The quality is phenomenal for the price. Right now some of the LTD's and BC Riches, as well as PRS SE guitars are built there. For the price, I don't think there's anything out there that can beat them.

Just finished the review. I can say that you covered all my queries. Nice review! The truth is that i am also looking for a used Jackson SL2H but its hard to find the guitar that i want on a price that i want.. Anyway, i'll keep searching because i need a guitar urgently!

Thanks! Yeah, like I said, I love the design, I'm not too pleased with the implementation. If it were Korean, MIJ or USA quality, I'd absolutely love it.
