    Used RR3's I've seen go for $200-$500. I bought mine for $250ish and don't regret a thing.

      I would say a used RR5 or a new RR24m.

IMO, any used Japanese neck through model. I have 4 of them and they're all awesome.

                  +1

I have quite the collection of RR's made and my 2 favorites are my RR5 & RR24 which happens to be an RR24M. I mean I love my RR1 but it seems the neck is rather fat (whole guitar is heavier too IMO) where as the RR5 & RR24's have a much slimmer neck. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the RR5FR I just bought.

Is there any other brand of guitar...?

I can vouch for the RR Concept, it's a light guitar and it plays great. My only issue was with the location of the output jack & it tended to nose dive but that was quickly solved by moving the top strap button to the neck plate.

                    edit
duur, the concept isn't neck through but none the less a good guitar.

The RR Pro's 90-91's The KBRR is pretty awsome also.

RR1, definately! If $$$ is a major issue, buy used or simply save up for a new one. My thinking is that if you stick with playing long enough you WILL SURELY at some point desire and buy a high-end instrument (which the RR1 absolutely is)- so why not just save all the money you'd have otherwise blown on less expensive models? I made the mistake of buying an Epiphone LP Custom 2 years ago, thinking that after a 20-year hiatus of not playing the Epi would suit me well- well BS! After one year I became preoccupied with its shortcomings (which are many, lol) and jumped on an RR1. The $750 I spent on the Epiphone was utterly wasted, as nowadays it only comes out of the case when I'm afraid of marring the Rhoads (like when I'm enjoying several rum & cokes, lol).

Go for the high-end model and enjoy it forever.

I'd have to agree unless you can get an RR1 at a similar price.

One that you make into your own, like this heavily modded RR EX.
Took an old red EX I got on FeeBay and stripped it, gutted it and painted it. Then I put on a Mighty Mite neck, SD Blackouts, CTS 3 way toggle, OFR, Planet Waves tuners, Schaller Strap Locks. Damned thing plays GREAT!!! I foolishly thought I'd sell it but after playing it a few more times and my financial situation improved, I decided to keep it. Glad I did!!!
