  • what is the deal with the Jackson active preamps of the past?

    I've noticed guys mention various onboard active preamps with the Jackson pickups on different USA guitars from the 80's/90's.

    What were the different preamps available back then and what were the details on them?
    Jackson USA guitars
    BC Rich guitars

    Diezel Herbert
    Diezel VH4
    Framus Cobra
    VHT UL
    Mesa Rectifiers rev C, F, triple F
    Mesa MK3
    Bogner rev 2 Uber

    I dont know too much about them, as I just got my '90 Soloist, but I can tell you its a active mid boost that works great with distortion, "especially the humbucker", when playing heavier type music. It gives the overall tone a nice rounder, thicker tone. For cleans, not so much. Its a little muddy with it on for cleans. As far as how many different types where made, and what models they were, ect, Im really not sure.

          they weren't just available in US guitars either. Some of the imports had them too
