  • San Dimas original question

Found a SAn Dimas in a Pawn. Looks close to dead mint and almost new.

Its a pointy headstock though and he says its an ORIGINAL. It has a OF and single bucker. Gunmetal Black.

How can I tell if its legit?

No pics but Serial# is 6613

Yeah, you can see the list of the newer ones here http://rz-home.de/~jweber0/charvel/.

Original `80s San Dimas have numbers up to 5491.

It's a USA however and the new ones are top notch, so can be an excellant find. You should post pictures to make sure someone didn't slap on a San Dimas neck plane on an import. How much is the pawn shop asking?

Yea im thinking not even that after a browse of Ebay. There is one exactly like it on there right now for $900.

Im thinking $750 would be a deal.

I have a memory of Charvel pushing guitars with those exact specs right after fender took over and tried to ramp up charvel pionty production (04-05 time frame) - I would expect they made a more than a few and I think that $750 would be a "deal of sorts (although if you dont mind kalhers, original 80s pointies can be had in the $750 range these days on the bay).

I actually have never owned a guitar with a Kahler. All of mine are OFR and now I have a cheap trem I hate on this Ibanez Js100 I aquired.

Yeah, that's too much for that plain axe. I just bought 2 new SD with graphics and 2 hum, Floyd each for around $900.

You mean Gunmetal Gray? Or Metallic Black?

Check out the thread a few lines down from this one. It says "Do you guys think I got a good deal on these?" (sorry, I can't remember how to post a link...duh!) They were GC blowouts.

Got ya. Kalhers are very well made (actually over-engineered in my book), but are not everyone's bag and chances are, if you didnt grow up playing them, you are not gonna like them for about 10 reasons, particularly if you actually use the bar on the guitar regularly while you play (if you dont, then you more likely than not fall into the catagory of poeple who say f' a trem anyway, so who wants a kalher - too big and ugly! LOL!).
