• Custom Strathead Questions #2 - #9

Probably some more no-brainers in here. Multiple questions today as I expect that, for some folks, answers on these would be inter-related with each other. For example, I'd want a solid color on a top-loader, but wouldn't give the same response for a rear loader.

If it's not completely obvious, there will need to be follow-up questions to some of these, to further narrow down specs. (Color, etc.)

Remember, COST should be a factor in your decisions!

Awe, crap! Am I the only one who can view only the first two questions when your view the results? There's no way to "page down" to the other questions' results?!

Going to have to redo these, I think.

Nevermind! It's a javascript issue, maybe just my PC. If, like me, you can't page through to view all of the poll results, just hit this link instead:

        That should work.

I'm surprised by the vote for neck wood. Weren't just about all the San Dimas necks birdseye maple? Also, I thought Maple would be a choice for body wood.

Nope.. My stratheads have all been quartersawn but there are nice figured necks out there too. The flip side to that is that figured unfinished necks tend to be less stable in climatyes that change drastically. So while figured is a much nicer wood it isn't alwaysd the smartest buy ..

As far as body wood Maple to me would be way to bright sounding ...

Kev how true my figured neck moves like a cat on a hot tin roof. Just this summer I have had to raise the action once and then take the neck off and adjust the truss rod once. But it's worth the work.

Must be a climate thing. Here in Denver my neck has never moved. I would think having a rosewood or ebony fretboard would help with this too, anyone had any experience with this?? I think someone mentioned that their 25th anniv. was having a lot of probs with the neck moving.

I too picked birdseye, but I've never had a problem with them at all in the high humidity parts of South Tx or currently here in dry-ass Southern Ca.

Hmmm. Right now, it's looking like we may need a couple of run-off questions. All the others look pretty locked.

OK, neck wood and body finish are too close to call. So this doesn't bleed into tomorrow's questions too much, I'm going to do the run-off questions on them now.
