  • Charvel body? USA? Or Foreign?

I have what someone told me was a Charvel body but don't know how to identify it. It has a single pot placed where they are placed on the single pup Charvel guitars. Strat type body, jack hole is at bottom right. I planned on attaching a few pictures but it says I'm not allowed to add attachments. The routes have a red paint and the body is rough but painted a grayish blue, with some goldish crackles in the finish near the top bout and lower part of the guitar. Is there a body identification link someone can turn me on to? Thanks.. Nice forum..

Upload your pics to a free hosting site like photobucket.com, then insert the image url in a post either by clicking on the little button that looks like mountains, or by just using the img tagged links that photobucket gives you. The most important pics will be the back of the guitar, preferably with the cavity plates off. A neck pocket pic would be good as well.

We're looking for things like whether or not the trem cavity plate is recessed (USA weren't, import were), how long the belly cut is (USA longer), the shape of the electronics cavity, and any neck pocket marks.

Here ya go, the body may be an import because the trem spring route is recessed.

electronics route is import. USA's have the same size shelf all around.

Is that a 2 in the neck pocket? I'd say it's an import model 2.

That body almost looks like someone took a torch and burned the red paint off.

The belly cut also indicates its import.

Well you can see that's a totally different coat of paint over the red. The crackle finish under the blue looks bronzish color--is the paint original?

It does appear to be an ink stamped larger "2" in the neck pocket.

The red may be the original paint. They came in a pretty limited range of colors. Black, white, red, metallic blue, and maybe one or 2 other basic colors.

The body wood is basswood, in case you were curious about that.

Right on that is a model 2 and routed for a jt6 trem. Easy to pop in a floyd on that body. would make a cool project, slap on a production neck and you have yourself a nice axe man
