  • Celtic Frost

Can anybody recommend Celtic Frost? Also, which songs/albums are the absolute best to listen to right off the bat? I'm into melodic (but still heavy) metal that has a groove and a tune. Thanks.

I'd say get "to mega therion" and avoid "cold lake".

Haha, no kidding. Cold Lake is pretty gay. To Megatherion is a pretty cool one. Into The Pandemonium was a little odd at times, but not bad. Morbid Tales, and The Emperor Returns weren't bad.

"Into the Pandemonium" _is_ weird, but it's also highly influential, and a really good listen, IMO - still one of my fav discs from the '80s.

Of course, a sense of humor and adventure is needed.

"To Mega-Therion" is also excellent, and "Vanity/Nemesis" was a quite good return to form. The "Parched With Thirst I Am, and Dying" compilation is also a pretty cool place to start, especially with Tom cracking on the "Cold Lake" stuff himself, to save us from doing it.

"Morbid Tales" and "Emperor's Return" are also good, although the production is a bit lacking. You're probably either going to like the Frosties, or you aren't - there doesn't seem to be a lot of middle ground.

What's wrong with Cold Lake specifically? Thanks for posting, btw.

the compilation has many good tracks on it, a lot of them were remastered. also a couple tracks that don't appear on any of the albums. it's called "parched with thirst i am dying" they are in the studio by the way, maybe late this year there will be a new disk from them. i think it will feature the 2nd gen frost lineup, tom warrior(gtrz), martin ain(bass), reed st mark(drmz)

don't dismiss it, some of the tracks are quite heavy. i think, pickup parched with thirst, you will be happy. like i said it's got tracks from all the albums plus some unreleased ones. i listen to this album a lot, once or twice a week. good stuff.

                            Re: Celtic Frost

I just got through listening to 'Morbid Tales last week and then moved on to 'Into the Pandemonium'. Those are my 2 favorite CF albums. 'To Megatherion' was another really good album, I just didn't like the production when compared to 'Morbid Tales'. The sound was a bit more muddy. Where as 'Morbid Tales' was crisp & raw. "Return To The Eve" & "Procreation Of The Wicked" are 2 of my fav. songs.
