• Mustaine gear question

What pickups did/does Dave typically use? I know he favors Seymour Duncan. Is it the JB/59 combo? JB/Jazz? Am I getting closer? What came stock in his sig Jacksons? How about his new ESP?

His tone is awesome, that's the only reason I ask. It's high output without being over the top. The EMG crowd never seems to sound as good (in a traditional sense) as the Duncan followers. Thanks for any info.

Dave has secified the JB/Jazz set in the ESP DV8. I also believe that is what he was using in most of his Jackson Y2KVs and King Vs. IIRC there was a BL L500XL on some of his early sig Jackson King Vs.

Dave wired his old KV from the earlier days with bridge pickup to volume then straight to output; the Bill Lawerence 500XL neck pickup was there for cosmetic purposes. He used a Duncan Custom until the Countdown era when he then changed it to the JB; this might have also been around the time when he painted it to match his Mercedes (not sure about this part). His Y2KVs have a JB in the neck and a TB-4 (a JB in trem spacing) in the bridge.

...I could be wrong; feel free to correct me.

I have heard before that Dave used a Dimarzio X2N Hum in the bridge during the 'Rust' era.

I've also read somewhere that he used a Dimarzio X2N on Rust in Peace. I’ve also seen some older pictures of Megadeth playing live where Dave was using Jackson pickups, well at least he had Jackson pickup covers. I wouldn’t think that he would use a Jackson cover on other brands of pickups but you never know.

As the others have stated at least from countdown forward he’s been using either the JB/JB combo or JB/Jazz.

LOL I even looked the word "secified" up, because I thought it was one of those big words I'd never heard of. Then I realized you meant specified! Hahahaha!
