This man holds a special place in my heart. His playing is unique and I've been in awe ever since the first time I heard him years ago. Look at how easy he makes it look and how calm he is about it. No stress, just doing what he likes. Hats off
Joe along with Django Reinhardt and Wes Montgomery were the most important and groundbraking jazz guitarists ever.
Without them we wouldn't have John McLaughlin, John Scofield, Pat Mentheny, Al DiMeola, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Greg Howe etc.
nice find.

gotta always expose one's self to all playing styles, and try to take from all of them. I like Wes Montgomery the best of the jazz players, but Joe Pass is awesome too.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives
I spent some time with Joe in Salt Lake City back in '90. Amazing stuff. He was showing me riffs I couldn't comprehend. The only thing I remember about our jam session was he taught me how to carry guitars on the road with airlines. Leather gig bag in the overhead compartment! That's the way Joe travelled with his Jazz boxes.
One amazing player. He would play a bass line on the guitar while playing the songs melody at the same time The notes seem to jump off the guitar!

That's one of the things that impresses me the most about Joe, playing the bassline and the melody at the same time.. It's almost like he's playing two instruments at the same time. To be honest I've caught myself thinking "but surely he's got a bass player there too?" Then I see a video-clip and he's doing it all by himself. Unbelievable! One of a kind. You were lucky to meet him, I'm green with envy
