I'd never listened to them until now. That first song "Ocean Planet" seems very Godflesh influenced. I'll continue to listen.

            Gojira are gods among men.

As far as gear goes... RR5/SLS (both with stock pickups) -> 2 ch Mesa Dual Recto's -> Marshal 1960A -> Nuemann TLM103.

I was about to ask something: how in the hell do they get their tone? The tone on the album From Mars to Sirius is bloody amazing! It's crunchy and very, very metallic sounding. I'd like to get a tone kind of like that -- that's not muffled/muddy -- where you can actually hear each string that's being played in a chord. I guess the Mesa amps -- like mentioned above has something to do with it? I was thinking that it may be the strings they use or something; I've never played on a Mesa, so I have no idea.

That song The Heaviest Matter of the Universe is killer; the little harmonic rake thing they do around the 5th fret is really interesting.

Actually, a big part of it is how little gain they use, and that Nuemann mic.

Wow, that sounds awesome and they play with tons of energy....they live up to their name. Is their live sound always this good?

Also, a few good shots of an RR in that vid.
