• System of a down on 2 dollar Bill

Well i just finished watching system do the MTV 2 dollar bill and let me say i was disappointed. His tone sounded like ass and you can defintly tell he is using marshall mode 4's, very solid state and shrill sounding. When i think system i think Mesa, they had such a great tone and now he sounds like ass!

I saw an interview with Julia on Fuse with them. They are all a bunch of assholes. I used to like their music.. but they are arrogant pompous asswipes who think that just because they sold 2 million records they are somehow above giving a decent interview. After I saw that interview I wanted to throw my TV out of the window. Back in the 80's... they would have been laughed off of the stage. My new opinion of them now is:
No talent asswipes who are lucky that the music industry had nothing going on when they were coming up and that musical chops is secondary. Even their live sound sucks ass.. but how would they know. They don't listen to anybody and every word spoken from any of them is gospel and so profound (to them). Crap. SOAD sucks. I am no longer a fan. I.. for one.... can play better, sing better, write better and I could also kick all of their asses too.
Fuck em..

ok, on topic....never heared a good soad song. chop suey (or whatever the song with the kinda spanish sounding intro is called) is halfway decent, but esp. their newer stuff is really boring.

I find hard to belive that you can write betten than them, but if you can, then what are you doin' here?
I'm not pickin' on you bro. but SOAD is one of the most unique sounding bands right now, they have their own sound and style wich is very important. I've heard some of their brand new songs and they've gotten even better.
That being said, I've never cared about their guitar tone either, and some of their songs are really wierd, and they are assholes, but that has nothing to do with their music, keep the artists' personal life and personality separate from the music they make, there are a lot of great musicians who act like a bunch of dickheads.

I never got discovered. Thats all. There are many talented musicians who never had the winning lottery ticket into the music business. I am one of them. There are way more of us then there is of them. Luck has ALOT to do with it.

Re: System of a down on 2 dollar Bill

yes luck and uniqueness, SOAD came out with totally different style of heavy rock music, they mixed their Armenian traditional music and flamenco with prog, oldschool thrash, hardcore and modern metal. There aren't a lot of bands who sound like them

Re: System of a down on 2 dollar Bill

I have to say, the two CDs they released this year contain some of the best, most unique hardrock I've heard in years. As for their arrogance, I try to ignore interviews with artists to whom I listen. Often they aren't people I'd like to know I don't want my personal opinion of the individual to taint my interpretation of the music they create. Luck is an aspect of success, but more often it is simly a strong drive to succeed. Arrogance, I prefer self-assurance, feeds that determination. Sure, there are lots of talented musicians sitting on their couches with zero determination. I think talent is comprised of many factors apart from just the ability to create a song, or painting. You also need the confidence that your creation is worthy of being experienced by the public.

+1 Couldnt agree more, if i judged music by the assholes that write it, then i would be missing out on alot of good music. I do like how system writes and there weird and different style, it is refreshing to find a group that is not afraid to do something different and stand out.

However there live tone on this 2 dollar show just purley sucked ass, the recorded tone on the new albums sounds decent, but they did sound so much better when he used Dual Rec's. The only person that i think pulled off great tone with solid state was Dime.

SOAD have always come off as assholes, the guitarist is suppose to be one of those short fused assholes that explodes on the slight hint of a problem. You know his type, the kind that will get a good beat down but still run his mouth.

I some what agree, i mean i am better then alot of these bands out there, but i just did not want it enough, i actualy turned away from fame because it was not my life style. If you have the dedication then you will make it if you write decent to good music, but you have to be willing to sacrafice.

Fuck em. They should be greatful that people care and spend money for their records and tickets. I know plenty of superstars who are humble and thankful for their fans. There is no need to be assholes and thats exactly what they are. I don't buy the arguement that a musician has a license to be a dickhead just because they write good songs or they are unique and popular. A dick is a dick no matter how many records they sell.

VERY rarely does one "get discovered". Most that "make it" make it due to very hard work, perseverance, and a 24/7 many year dedication to the goal. Talent and most importantly song writhing help imensly. To sit there and say you just never got discovered shows your arrogance IMO.

I think Axl Rose is the biggest motherfucking self-centered sissy-ego dickhead I've ever heard of and he didn't had the licence to be like that but musically he was genious and I bought all of his records, but I would kick his stupid ass if he would do some shit to me.

I love it when people sit on the these forums and claim how great they are. "Yeah I'm supremely talented, but I just didn't want it... I could out write and out play (insert band here)"

It shouldn't be embarrassing to admit that you just don't have what it takes, whether it be because of musicianship, technical ability or most importantly, attitude. Again, the cream rises to the top...

Again... plenty of us didn't get discovered.
A hit record or hit song is just a lottery ticket. Talent in writing and performing is what you need to create the "lottery ticket". After you create it... you need a shit load of luck to make it worth anything. Ask anybody who made it. Many times... you either have to know somebody or you have to be in the right place at the right time.
Take Ratt for instance.. Tons of hit songs. Great chops. Do you think they would have made it without Uncle Milty?? Maybe not!
What about EVH?
What if Gene Simmons didn't come along?
Of course.. there are plenty of bands who paid their dues and did it with sweat and hard work but even those bands had a degree of luck whether it be a rich family that allowed them to pursue their dream until it became reality or just being in the right place at the right time.
When Nirvana came out, the right place was Seattle.
When Motley Crue came out... LA. Thats luck too.
I grew up in Port Chester NY. I am 100% sure that if Motley Crue was from Port Chester and it was the most happening place to be for metal in the 80's, my band would have gotten signed just like all the other bands did who were pare of the LA scene. Thats luck too.
Being blessed with talent and drive and focus is pretty common in the music business. Heck... its pretty common in the entertainment business but most actors are bussing tables until they eventually have to give up their dream.
That is EXACTLY why I can't stand bands who can't even give a decent interview.
