I am sure Ibanez isn't really concerned. As long as they keep Satch and Vai. Everyone else is meh. I am more amazed that Dave doesn't have a meltdown with all those jacksons around him.

On the contrary... He doesn't own Dean, they be endorses them. Keeping Jackson around, knowing the marketing people, all that jazz, keeps Dave in a spot where Dean can never be complacent unless they decide they just don't want to work with him anymore.
If Dean bitched I'm sure Dave would say "great, you want my whole band to endorse you exclusively? Let's talk terms."
I'm pretty sure it was FMIC. He went to ESP right after Fender took over. Something about them not wanting to give him the same deal he had before. I think ESP was a stepping stone until he found a company that would give him what he used to get from Jackson.

At this point, I think they could lose Vai and the Jem. They have the RG models. I think the Jem became less elusive once they made them accessible with cheaper models. I mean, just buy an RG and cut out your own handle.
And, of course, all of those Chinese fakes haven't helped at all.
They had Vai during his best years. He is 55 years old and doesn't make music anymore. He makes spiritual art. Ain't nobody got time for that. They may be better off to dump him - but from a marketing stance, they would need to publicly say they dumped him. None of this amicable 'parting of the ways' or 'going in different directions' crap that companies pull. That way Vai couldn't spin it with "I found a hot little company that blew me away."
I don't know they still sell a lot of the jem's. More than they do of the Satch model. The monkey grip, tree of life and lions claw do aesthetically set it apart from an RG quite a bit. I've seen post market monkey grips and man they are ugly that needs a CNC machine. You are correct that no one is buying a JEM because of what steve is currently doing but the same can be said of the PC1 series.

my jem is a 2003 i believe...regardless of the aesthetics it is an incredibly well put together instrument...i have quite a few rgs but the neck on the jem has a very different backshape...i like em all but the jem definitely feels different (sounds diff too because its alder not basswood)...so while vai may have helped design it, in the end its still just a well crafted guitar which may account for the continued success...d.m.
