Overkill/Savatage Connection?

I remember way back in the late 90s or so (yeah, WAY back) I read somewhere that the song RIP by overkill off the WFO album was written for Criss Oliva (album released in 94, Oliva killed in 93, makes sense).

Has anyone else heard this? Any truth to it? Cool song either way.
