That didn't sell me. For one, that lead is epic and Marty WROTE it... he's not regurgitating work that someone else performed. To me, it seems like Marty is going for it and enjoying it. Chris' interpretation reminds me of an instructional video where the instructor plays it safe to get the solo as perfect as possible. Perfection is important of course, but too much perfection can take the life out of a piece. Speaking of that video... If that's from the recent pro shot San Diego show than I wouldn't be surprised if it had been doctored after the fact. That whole show just sounds a little too perfect.

Don't get me wrong... I think Chris Broderick is great. I just think he hasn't found himself as the lead guitar player for Megadeth. Either that or Dave is telling him what to play... maybe a little of both. I agree with the comment above about Chris copping a bit of Loomis's style in his solos. I hear that too.

That from his "Betcha Can't Play This". After playing it at speed, he also plays through it slowly.

    Fans?:ROTF:

No serious i remember watching the rude awakanings DVD when Al Pitrelli & Jimmy Degrasso were briefly in the band and remember Mustaine slagging of Marty Friedman on the extras part and just be-littling marty, so i think theres no hope he'll ever return, unless the price is right.

Mustaine is the best guitarist Megadeth has ever had as far as writing leads, here's one of my personal favs - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-dcpxv7IU4

I haven't heard all the solo's from Endgame. Chris is on the right path, he's still trying to emulate Marty and you can really hear his influence from Jeff Loomis. From what I did hear, the solo's didn't feel as if they had a aggressive and ballsy approach. The technique was great, but he just sounded like he was trying to emulate and fit. He will get there though.

Skip to around 2:30 and hear this bitchen solo Bruce Bouillet lays down. It's a rough example, but you can just feel the emotion and aggressiveness (in it's own way.)

To me playing with balls needs aggression, attack, fire, intensity etc. Chris' Endgame solos sound sterile and soft, no dynamic contrast, no balls. I believe that if you are castrated then you have no business wanking off.
    Comparisons please.

I've been playing since 89. Still can't take the 'feel' players. I mean common - feel is a 'must', it is a given and you will not be interesting to anyone if you don't "say" things by playing. But you have to be up to a certain level technically, and not holding it back. Otherwise.... I'm not interested personally. I'll listen to Gary Moore, but spare me of GNR. Give me YJM, Tony Mac, Vai, but spare of Satch. Sorry

clearly not. some people outgrow the "excitement" of pure technical playing. i am with endrik. as a guy that has been playing for 25 years, i find myself admiring players that can balance taste with technical ability - and appreciate melody and phrasing FAR more than speedy scalar runs.

Chris Broderick shreds with balls, he's a monster. I get fired up listening to him rip. He has the bad ass factor a lot of guitarists won't ever have.
