  • Saw Steel Panther last night.

The local radio station was doing a drive for the foodbank and put on a show with Steel Panther headlining. These guys put on a pretty enteraining show. "Satchel" played a super entertaining guitar solo throwing in little bits and pieces of EVH, Yngwie, Christmas classics, The Sound of Music all while standing behind the drumset playing the kick drum. It was an awesome Spinal Tap kind of vibe. he played his tiger stripe Kramer the whole show. The guy can flat out play.

The crowd was definitely more sausage fest than I'd hoped for but there were some ample cleavages on full display. The played all their originals plus a couple of covers as encores. Kickstart My Heart, Jump, Paradise City.

All in all, they are worth seeing with a caveat. Essentially they are just a very talented cover band. If you enjoy that, then you'll enjoy their show.

Check out their new cd. With soon to be classics such as "Fat Girl (Thar She Blows)" it's a must have! Really, it's great and hilarious.

I almost died the first time I heard that song..."I know you're hungry...I can see it in your eyes". Amazing.

I've listened to it ALOT since I got it. There are some great vids on Youtube too. Musically, the songs are great. Lyrically, they are HILARIOUS.

They're not saying "SOMEBODY" in that song. It's actually "Sucky, Fucky."

That's part of the lyric from Asian Hooker, one of their songs, for those of you who haven't heard the cd.

                    Well shit...guess it's because I don't have liner notes.

How's this: "Went to South Korea, broke out with gonorrhea. Now I totally figured it out - that's why it hurts when I go pee! SHIT!"

Greatest guitar album of 2009 by a long shot!
Hope to see them play one day.

Incidentally, doesn't it really piss you off that when you mention Steel Panther, some pillock will always come back with (nerdy voice) "Yeah, but I preferred them when they were Metal Skool"

I saw them as Metal Skool once, I wasn't impressed at all. A lot of song-interrupting by the singer to bad-mouth his band-mates: Damn, that got old fast.

Maybe they improved drastically with the name change? I'll have to check 'em out on the "Tube"

How can you NOT be impressed with such lyrical content as this:

You're mama's in the parking lot looking for you, she's gonna find you when I'm done all covered with goo.

                            and...

Come on pretty baby suck my balls all night, I'm hopped up on Cialis and you're high as a kite, I know it tastes infected but I think it's all right, come on pretty baby suck my balls all night.

And now imagine those lyrics being sung to the tune of Extreme's "More Than Words" (or something extremely close).

                              Their lyrics are pure poetry.

Lyrics aside, the music is some the best melodic hard rock. I'm an 80's reject so this stuff is right up my alley. Anyone into great 80's hairband / melodicrock will not be disappointed.

We have a tradition at our house on Thanksgiving to get up at 6:30am to start cooking. At this time, it is customary to start off with shots of Jaeger followed by beer chasers to kick off the holiday. My wife almost peed herself when she heard the lyrics to "Community Property" - My dicks a free spirit..No you just can chain it down.
