  • KT77's sound clips , anyone?

I'm looking into the splawn competition amps and I have a choice of el34's kt77's or kt88's (50 dollar upcharge for the 88's).I know I don't want the el34's are the 77's a more aggresive less mid el34 and also not quite as much low end as the 88? Basically is the 77 in the middle of these 2 tube types?

I thought KT-88's were a different tube type than the 77's KT-88's are in my 2-90-2 rated at 50 watts per tube, the others are 25 watts per tube, am I not correct?

KT77s are a direct replacement for EL34s. I use one in my THD Univalve head. It's got more low end and is a little less aggressive than an EL34 to me.

        Go with the kt77.
Yes they are a direct replacement for the EL34. They have less mids and a shit load more bottom end. Im a tube freak and the biggest differences I have ever noticed are with the kt77 (when changing from EL34) and also the Tung-sol 12ax7 reissues. The kt77 are a great tube.

Scott is making these amps from scratch so you can preorder any of these tubes combinations but once he starts you can't switch so you are correct . I didn;t mean swapping after the fact ,I meant either or.

So are these basically a lower wattage kt88? I'm looking for a modern tone but also a clear distortion for articulation and lead tone.

They have nothing to do with KT88s. KT88s are a direct replacement for 6550s but can handle higher plate voltages and possibly yield a bit more power.
              The KT77s are like EL34s and 6CA7s.

Here's a soundclip of a kt-77 quickrod that I found on harmony central.
I've heard a lot of quickrod owners on there swear by them. I might get a matched quad and throw them in my amp.
