  • Poweramp presence

    Hey everyone,
I don't quite understand the uses and function of the presence control on power amps. I would also like everyone to know that right now, at 4am, a trash truck is beating the shit out of the dumpster right outside of my window at my apartment. Anyway, I feel like if I turn the presence to 0 on the power amp, I'll make my tone muddy, but I don't know if turning it up is like adding presence on top of the presence of the preamp, which seems too extreme. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Nick

I'm not entirely sure, but in general i'll keep presence to a minimal when using distortion and add a bit when playing clean - becuase it gives a bit more room to the sound (interpret that as you will). If anything I think that adding presence will increase muddiness in many cases.

fyi, it basically provides a small amount of gain at frequencies above the treble control

think it as a power section EQ.

On amp heads, the mid, treble and bass are pre-amp tone, the presence is power section tone...

bottom line is there is no right or wrong...uese your ears and set it for whatever sounds to to you
