• First gig with my new XT Live review!

Firstly...Big thanx to John a.k.a Dreamland rebel!

Crap did I feel funny playing a show with something I have only had for less than 24 hrs...

I run it into my XXX loops return.

One thing I'll say right now is...(As John told me) You need to tweak this at the volume you will be playing at and you still want to be ready to do some tweaking during sound check and between songs. So, get familiar with tweaking this without the editor as much as you can.

Also make a few banks of patches incase one doesn’t even come close to giving you what you want. Like my Uber bank!

It sounded so good at home when I cranked it but, it then comes down to environment and my house is nothing like the hardwood floor venue I played last night. haha!

The uber setting sounded like a low sonic hum, so went to my "Insane" bank, set up with a rhy, lead and clean patch. I had it sounding like a 5150 by bringing up the low mids and cutting down the mid highs a bit with the post eq. Gave it a real throaty sound that cut through much better. Still I had to do a little volume and eqing right there.

I got this to get me through all the gigs we are doing till I get my mini rack together and as a back up for when it's done. Also for it's recording and home practicing. I figured it's just too useful to not have it right now.

I would still prefer my XXX tone but I have come to the realization that I need a matching cab (Listened to one and it sounds so much better with the amp)a high end rack processor like a G Major (That can switch amp ch's) a power conditioner as well as a midi controller. That’s gunna take time so I hope this will do.

I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to create patches and assign them with the editor and tone port. Great software and I also like the fact that Line 6 tends to allow up grades to their hardware. I hope they have some pitch processing and acoustic sims in the future.

Also this unit is much heavier and sturdy than it looks. It is very well built.

I am surprised that the high gain amp models are not as high gain as I would expect. I find myself using gain boosters for every patch. Anyone else find this. And I don't run my gain full out on my amps usually. I find the :EQ+Boost sim to help out with this though. The "Screamer" for my lead boost.

At the end of the night all the guitar players came right up with compliments so I take it as a good thing. I missed the target and switched to the wrong chan once but, all in all it was pretty good for gear I haven't been with for more than a day.

It's getting better every day...You sure have to make sure you are following all the steps when setting it up for different applications.

I have it now where I can play it through my computer and make my patches...Then swich it to "Power amp 4x12" and run it through my amp and have it pretty much right on with minimal tweaking.

I tried running it through the front without any amp sims to use with my amps own tone but, I got some noise so I gave up on that for now.

Just tried Petes Eruption patch. Damn, he has that phaser set right on the money. When you hit that 12 fret harmonic at the end it sounds dead on.

there is a member "JRTME" and he is pretty damn good at making L6 tones.. he and I swap tones a good bit on the deth boards.. he makes them for each song, and he is much better than I am...
Dave,
One think I would do, is buy the Mod packs.. the different amp models are great, especially the JCM 2000

if you are wanting to try the xtl for FX only, you need to send it through the FX loop of you amp. set the xtl to pwr stack. and turn off the amp sim. then you can use just the FX. granted the gain based fx might sound better trough the front but making sure you set the output mode to front stack if you go that route.

I tried it and I like it! I set my rhythm tone up as I normaly did with my amps natural tone and had my Daughter go to the computer and tweak the EQ while I played. It didn't seem to color my tone at all, just shaped it to my liking better. The modulation, reverb and delays sounded great to. Just wish you could run the stops through the fron of the amp like the GT-8 with the four cable method. The ability to switch ch's would be nice too.
