  • Engl 580 MIDI preamp

Any opinions on this one? stumbled across it on the ENGL-site...

how is it compared to a Marshall JMP-1?

    Re: Engl 580 MIDI preamp

It smokes the JMP-1 by a good margin IMO.

But, Engl makes excellent fairly outstanding tube equipment. My friend has a 2 channel mmodel, and it sounds REALLY good. Real nice classic tube growl...

    You will not be dissapointed.

      Re: Engl 580 MIDI preamp

I have an Engl 520 preamp, and it absolutely kills! Actually, it´s a little too much for my taste...it´s got a pretty heavy "metal" sound, so it´s not in my main set-up...but I´m sure a heavier player would appreciate it even more. I mainly use it in the studio for some screechy/chunky Lynch-tones.

All in all, Engl makes first-rate equipment...and alot of it is prepared for MIDI as well, which in my book is a huge advantage. And I second Clevelands opinion, the JMP1 isn´t even in the same league. Engl is more expensive than Marshall, but well worth the extra cash.
