      That Liverpool sure sounded good.

Meh, could use a good upgrade from VooDoo amps
gainstage or 2 extra would make that cheap box of old parts a helluvalot better

The bottom one sounded the best to me.

One of my inspirations, Ken was a great builder.
            Thanks!

Suzanne (bottom) was my favorite also.
The Liverpool (top) reminds me of why I don't care for EL84 tones all that much.

I re-listened here at home through my monitors instead of through my in ear at work.

I still like the Liverpool, but not as much. I think with the right guitar/pickup combo it would totally give you Badlands era Jake tone.

I could definitely spend hours playing with the super musical feedback from Suzanne.

I think there's a combo sitting in GC Nashville for $350 if anyone wants it. It's behind the glass in the Used Gear area.

Combos are extremely rare (...as if the heads aren't...).
Ken did not like combos for the abuse the tubes take.
Wonder if someone did a conversion?

Maybe do a search on their Used website first.

                        Sounds a bit cheap
Aren't these things going for around 1 trillion dollars?

Heh, actually HA Dumble, Randall Smith, a zillion others and Ken Fischer wrote the book on those type of amps you love.
Along with a select few, they were not afraid to keep dumping more and more gain into the preamp tubes.
Eventually the result is what you hear in tube "metal" tones that we have come to know.
More compression in the stages has developed into what we know as the tight chugga-chugga
and scooped mids, but it got there somehow.

Ken was one of those guys that made it happen.

Much of what you hear in Marshall overdrive is not designed as such...believe it or not.

All good sounding amps. But I'm pretty sure those early builders had nothing to do with my 75 Super Bass...lol.
