  • Mesa Boogie factory tour

Last week, I was lucky enough to have a quick "private" tour of the Mesa Boogie factory in Petaluma California.

To make a long story short, I was in San Francisco in vacation. On Wednesday, we rented a car and visited the Napa valley. On our drive back to the hotel, I told my wife I wanted to get a quick pic of myself in front of the Mesa factory as Petaluma was a city we would be crossing.

To my surprise, I got more than a quick pic in front of the factory!

Even, if it was passed 6pm, Tien Lawrence, a product specialist (and an awesome person) was still in there and he offered me and my wife a tour around the factory. For like 50 minutes, we started from the prototyping phase to how the cabs are built, quality-control and packaging/shipping...

Sorry for the blurry pics, my wife still have to learn how to use the new digital cam.

Before I get asked that question, I did not try the new mini Rectifier! Damn I wish I could have!

And I was so surprised (flabbergasted would fit even more) that I forgot to ask all the questions I had regarding Mesa Boogie products. I felt like a kid in a candy store.

Just to let you know, I got (while doing the factory tour) the approval from the wife to order a mini Recto! So I will proceed with that case of GAS in the coming days!

Super-cool! I really like those exotic wood cabs.

Glad to be sharing this with you guys. I, too, was surprised about being walked around the factory like this and being able to take pictures freely like this.

I can tell you one thing: the Mesa guy knew really really well the products and you could feel in his way of talking about them that he was really proud of the way they are built and tested. Even the boxes are specialy made for Mesa Boogie to protect the equipment when it's shipped from the factory.

I chatted on the phone with Tien back in the late 90s. He's been there a LONG time. Shortly after that conversation, I remember looking at a MB ad in Guitar World or something and Tien was in the ad. I thought, "Oh, THAT'S what Tien looks like."

Anyway, if Tien gave it the OK, then I'm sure it's....OK.

Thanks for sharing the pics. Very cool.

Everyone I've ever talked to at Mesa has been the coolest person I talked to that day.
                      750xl, 88LE, AT1, Roswell Pro, SG-X, 4 others...
Stilletto Duece 1/2 Stack, MkIII Mini-Stack, J-Station, 12 spaces of misc rack stuff, Sonar 4, Event 20/20, misc outboard stuff...

Why do I still want MORE?

I have dealt with Mesa's customer service ALOT. Long story short... I have the very first Road King Combo with a cooling fan. mine was overheating when it was on an angled amp stand.... it was causing some goofy issues. Randall Smith even got invloved. he felt so bad for my trouble with their product he got involved with the diagnostics and repair, and he autographed my amp chassis for me. they are all first class folks there. they are the best I have seen yet for great service.

                            Love Mesa here.

Interesting the combo Road kings didn't have fans. My head has one.

That was really cool! There's a Mesa factory tour video on youtube and I recognized alot of the same areas in your pics. Was the combo cabinet with Andy Timmons pic on it supposed to be for him?
