  • Two Chords You'll Almost Never See Outside of Classical Music

The Neopolitan Chord: A major chord built off of the flatted second degree of a major or minor scale. For example, in C major, you have the notes C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C. The neopolitan chord would be D-flat major. Note that this chord was usually used in the first inversion by classical composers.

    The Prometheus Chord:

    Try playing this bad boy:

    ----7---
    ----8---
    ----7---
    ----8---
    ----9---
    ----9---

Prometheus chord is heavily used in jazz improvisations and modern instrumental film music.
Neapolitan chord is something pretty common for anyone who messes around on the piano.
