  • Doomy Egyptian type thingummyjig.

This is the only real "song" I've ever written, in the sense that it's the one I really remember. I've had it in mind for a couple of years now, this version is probably nearly a year old but I'd like to share it. I'm going to change it again when I have time, but I'm quite pleased with it as it is.
I wouldn't mind doing a spoken word type thing in the middle, although I'm not sure a thick Glasgow accent is gonna work in a song with this feel....

Anyway, tips on recording or how to get a better tone or whatever are most welcome.

I got the idea for the main riff from the very first song on Malmsteen's "Rising Force" album, and then developed it after hearing a guy called Eric Kauschen do something similar. I later found out he'd based it on Malmsteen's song too.

I believe I recorded this using my Jackson RR3, with Seymour Duncan Blackouts, and a cheap bass I have.

Thanks Trem. Yeah I know it does drag on a bit. I don't really want to speed it up or anything like that, it's supposed to be like a droney/trancey/ritual type thing, but yeah you're right it needs SOMETHING else...Hmmm...

Yeah, that was really cool! You have a cool voice - although I think it would have been cooler if you'd spoken in Norwgian. Are you the singer? You sound a little like Tim Owens in places - in fact the whole song sounds a lot like the new Yngwie album. But not shit.

thanks for the response. sorry if I hijacked your thread! maybe I'll do it in Norwegian live :-) I only sing backup on the choruses and I did the spoken word bit..and also the high scream at the end! The vocalist takes care of the rest so I can play intricate riffs and solos Anyway I have a voice similar to his, but he has better ability with vibrato and such. But we work well together..kind of a Stayley/Cantrell thing if that makes sense..only not as good You got a nice mood in that song. But you're right it needs something more..I enjoyed soloing over it though Maybe some keys or spoken word like you mentioned, to make it more creepy
                  keep it up - Rune.

You soloed over it? You didn't record it did you? I'd be interested to hear where you went with it.

Many years ago, we used to play around with mic's ran through delay and chorus pedals to mic various speakers, boomboxes, amps, etc that are playing back single tracks of recorded material...

and putting the speaker source in bath tubs or shower enclosures with various baffle materials, mic locations etc...

An old boombox in a bathtub netted a nice sound effect to drum tracks...

Maybe take a variation of your lead track and play with it to give sort of an orchestral backdrop to the beginning...

And yes, I have since put down the smoking accessory...
