  • Megadeth King V recording again!

Fun preview clip from the recording sessions. IMHO Antti's solo is one of the best I've ever heard. I had to shake his hand after he nailed it - it's just perfect for the song. Makes me look bad as usual. LOL!

Lots of guitar pron in the clip also.

Very cool. Both solos were nice. Yours reminded me of a cross between Adrian Smith and Dave Mustaine, while Antti has more of a Marty Friedman vibe.

Friedman is definately one of Antti's biggest influences. Well spotted. I like Mustaine's style but on this solo my licks came from Rockabilly style stuff (SRV, Strat Cats...) and the last tapping lick is just taking Chris Holmes legato stuff in a different direction. For me Iron Maiden is not an influence but people often hear that connection.

You're welcome. I actually did notice a little Chris Holmes vibe in there, too, but your first solo just seemed to have a Maiden-style type of harmony to me.

Oh you meant that part. It's not really supposed to be a solo. There will be vocals on top and I just played that thing to make the simple chord progression sound more interesting. I do that a lot where I play a harmony lick and keep moving it up to build tension towards a guitar solo or chorus.
It's always great when people actually listen to these things. Your analysis proved that you REALLY listened to the track. Thanks!

Ah, I gotcha. It just seemed like a short little solo section, but I guess if there were vocals on top I wouldn't have thought that. A very melodic and cool piece anyway.

                      I loved that! Superb.
I also hear a slight Adrian Smith thing at the start of yours - I don't really hear the Chris Holmes thing at all, but then, as you well know, that guy had a VERY unique sound.
Loved both the solos, the tone and the variation in styles.
