  • New JCF Jam idea

Ok, I'm sure I'm not the only one who lets the tape roll and just noodles around and then finds something worth keeping in the midst of it all, or comes up with "this one thing" but can't link it to anything else to make it a complete song.

So, who would be interested in picking out those bits and posting them here to see who can come up with what for it?

Might end up with some online collaborations (or aberrations) :ROTF:

Whatever ya got's fine. Like I said, this would be for those snippets that come from mindless noodling or something you've had in your head for a while and finally got it out but couldn't come up with anything else for it, or something that hit you out of the blue while you were tuning/warming up but then fizzled out but you kept it for years "just in case".

I still gotta go through mine to sort the snippets from the 30MB of crap surrounding them

I'll post them when I get them extracted.

I will start out right away!

          http://web.telia.com/~u65102548/temp/testriff_00.mp3

This is a couple of years old, and it seems to be in D tuning. I don't really play monotonous riff stuff these days, but this was something that just popped up. Sounds a bit Pantera-esque I think. I have no idea how I would contniue it.

How about we declare a key for this? I have always been a fan of C-Major =)

Not sure if I'd limit it to a key like a regular jam - depends on what everyone else wants I guess.

So far I've found over 200 files scattered across my PC, most of which just need to be finalized (flubs fixed, drums added, etc), but I did find a lot of what I was looking for initially - the snippets and such that I can't find a use for other than repeating them 50 times

I'd suggest that whatever's posted include the tuning used and tabs for riffs if necessary. Some of us (like me) aren't good for much more than power chords and simplistic scalar patterns

Well, it's a bit short, and you could really go in any direction with that. My first impression is to loop it with a slight pause (1 second or less) between repeats, then throw in some kick+cymbal chokes, then bust into a one-string-scalar type thing.

                Here's 35 of mine
                http://dr.newcenstein.com/mp3/snippets/

The filenames don't really have any special meaning as far as style/content (i.e. HellAwaits_intro, etc). I just made up names I thought would make it easier for me to keep track of when I was dumping them to my PC from my old AKAI DPS-12 before I sold it, so I could go back to them later and know which ones had what in them.

With over 100 tracks, it got harder to come up with decent generic names that were somewhat descriptive without having to write a note explaining each one.

Anyhoo, pick and choose, laugh out loud, and see if anything jumps out at you. Feel free to rewrite anything.

I'll try to put up tabs and a little "perspective" for them later - gotta go to bed now.

Most of them should be easy to figure out by ear - I'm not exactly technically proficient

Apologies for the wide range of tones - one of the hazards of a rack unit with 256 programmable patches
I tried to kinda even them out in Audition - some were too much one way or the other.

The e-604-amp clip is my Fender RocPro1000 head into my Carvin VE212 cabinet miked with a Sennheiser e-604 tom mic. I had to bump the bass up a bit in Audition. Interestingly, the same riff with an SM-57 had an identical tone as the 604. When I originally tried the 604 at my ex-drummer's house, it sounded way better/more natural than the 57. Maybe I need to swap a pin in the mic, but I dunno how.

Sounds like the level of your mic/line in is too high or something? I don't really know anything about recording but I was messing around for an hour or so over the weekend and my recordings sounded fuzzy like yours until I turned the mic level on my soundcard down a bunch. Aside from that, I think you've got plenty of things that could be good starts. I plan to spend some more time listening to and recording some things this week(end)

Well, some of those were beefed up in Audition because they were too low, and I always hit them with a Hard Limiter plugin set to -3dB, which may be too loud on some systems but works great for CDs.

Thanks. Wanna help me flesh it out and make something of it?

yes i would like to, i will try to write the riffs before it and you think what should happen after it , so will get like a backing track , and then we can try to jam over it. But i can record only with my mp3 player, but that will do , cause we still have to think how it will sound all together before we can add drums.

                            Is this ok with you?
