  • recording project that i finally have some progress with UPDATED

i'll try to make a longish, boring story kinda medium.

i'd joined a band with some friends that i lived in hollywood with about 10 years ago. life took me in and out of the band, and i always had a side guitarist role. i was perfectly cool with that, seeing as i was just happy showing up at practice, playing with some friends, and having the occasional gig in a good club.

the band had recorded stuff over the years, and i only played on a few songs. one thing that i always wished was the ability to record my own parts (and on some songs, my own solo ideas) with what i had missed out on. since i don't have the master tapes, it's pretty difficult to do. what i wound up doing was editing the songs so that there would be a backing track for me to solo over during some of the songs; the solo parts of most of our songs were usually played earlier in the song with no vocals, so i'd just c/p the parts where i wanted them.

anyway, here's the before and after of the first song. i'm not at all on clip 1, and i'm most certainly on clip 2. it's not perfect, and the mix is very rough, but so is the song. so good times.

it's probably not most of your cups o' tea, but hell, i hardly post in here.

    here's the original version

    and my version

recorded on my mac with my toneport ux1, the purple strat, and reverse spalt firebird.

I agree with Sean, but your solo totally smokes the other guy... He wasn't doing anything cool on there.

NICE! I heard some Jake in that solo too, especially the first vibrato. Awesome.

the first solo sounded like something I'd come up with.

                    the second sounded cool!
