  • Exploring the possibilities of my equipment

    hi all,

this weekend I decided to explore the possibilities of my equipment. I made a backing track with nice standard chord sequences and started to jam over it.
It came out alot better than what I had hoped for!

Since all I've posted so far were mp3s of my bands, and since the JCF Jam 3 didn't happen (hint hint Pete ) I thought I'd share this with you... there's an improvised guitar solo in it.

Here's the link, I hope this works... I know there are other (and better) free alternatives to Angelfire to host stuff, but I'm just too lazy.
So please COPY AND PASTE THIS LINK INTO YOUR BROWSER to download the file:

A list of equipment will follow.

    Hope you enjoy it!

    Regarding my equipment:

I have no fancy equipment, for recording I just plug whatever I have available direct into my PC, usually using a stereocable with two 1/4" jacks going into one 1/8" jack. Standard onboard soundcard.
I record with Cool Edit Pro 2.0, I like it because it has all I need for recording and is quite intuitive to use.

    Drums:
I programmed the drums with Fruity Loops 5, took me a few hours to get the hang of it, but at least it works. It's everything BUT intuitive... but I don't see the need to invest money in Drumkit from Hell. I have tried out Acoustica Beatcraft once, but it always crashed on my comp.

    piano stuff:
I have a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-170. So far I only used it to play (and record) the piano. Now I experimented with the other sounds, and with the giant midi library that is hidden behind one harmless looking knob.
Here's where I experimented the most...
All piano, synth, and glockenspiel parts were recorded with this... and I also recorded the bass track with it using a midi sound from the library.
This came out way better than I hoped for.

    guitar stuff:
I recorded all guitar parts with my POD 2.0, including the weird noises (the swell effect and delay came in very handy here!). I used my Soloist Archtop Pro for all parts except the solo, for which I used my KVX10. I use SD Distortion pickups in the bridge of both guitars, neck pickups on both are stock.
