  • Recording device to USB?

I bought a laptop and in the line in/ microphone is pretty crappy for guitar. So what is a good USB device that can take in guitar and or microphone input? I have a Pod 2.0 as well.

Should I get the POD XT?

    Is there anything cheaper?

A Boss GS-10 should work well for that purpose too. You could record via guitar-in --> USB --> laptop or use the microphone input. It also has a regular line-in in case it comes in handy.

If you're looking for something cheap you could perhaps check out the Line6 TonePort. I don't know what you'll think of the built-in sounds, but if you don't wanna use 'em you don't have to Anyways, the cheapest TonePort (ux1) has one mic input and one guitar/jack input.
Check it out if you're interested:

I have the Guitar Port and Tone Port. I like the tone port better and just bought the extra model packs. I also recently learned you can download tones for free from their site. Some are really good, others just sound like shit.

To get the full potential out of either the tone port or guitar port, add $99 to the price, because you will need the extra model packs to get the best out of it.
