  • Angel Witch (new YouTube metal series)

I'm starting a new series that focuses on lesser known metal songs. I'm using a format which allows me to create vids faster and focus on playing. The challenge is mostly in learning the parts by ear as tabs are rarely available for these songs.

First up is Angel Witch. One of the best NWOBHM of all time and this song is so catchy it should be illegal. Too bad I can't do any vocals.

Anyway here it is. That intro lick is damn hard to play at least for me...

The guitar madness series will also continue but this format allows me to take more suggestions and do things faster...

    That's awesome!

Great playing - sounds real good. Love Angel Witch. They've been putting out live videos lately - I don't know who's still original from the band, but they kick ass.

    Love that Charvel Bass, too.

Any chance you can tab out the intro lick you play? I've never been able to figure it out and the tabs I've found on the internet just sound wrong.

The tempo marking is wrong. It should be close to 190 - I just forgot to change it in the tab.

Awesome! Thanks! I'll try it out when I get home. No guarantees on a "madness" video like yours, though.

Thanks for the tab as well! Looks a lot different than what I was "playing" when I was butchered the intro mercilessly a few years back

How about some Tygers of Pan Tang?

A little John Sykes could be a challenge for you to nail. I guess it's essentially all blues based though, just some harsh speed.

Don't Stop By is a killer tune too, but a little more mellow.

Been requested a couple of times so I'll put them on the list. With this "Unsung Classics" format it's a lot faster to do vids than with the guitar madness so I can put out more songs.

Wow, okay I thought I was being all original hehe.

Any requests for Disillusion era Loudness? Crazy Doctor, Milky Way or Esper?

Or even my all time favorite Akira tune Tusk of Jaguar. ( Not for the faint of heart - features crazy tapping and whammy work )

Another good track off that album was Ebony Eyes. This is the heaviest song with the the lightest vocals ever recorded. It's BEGGING to be done with no vocals hehe. Actually never mind that. The whole album was so eclectic and wierd, it's why I couldn't figure out if I liked Yngwie or Akira more back in 1982. Akira definitely won the stylistic variations war.

This channel actually has the whole album posted. It's very interesting to listen to if you have some time to kill.

Oh and I just want to say I've loved all your videos so far you do a great job in all of them. The guitar porn is worth the visit anyways.

I dug out an old Heavy Metal Heroes or whatever compilation CD I bought a few years back, and there's Angel Witch tracks.

While the guitars were nice and technical, overall I thought they blew.

Then again, there's also Gary Moore's Nuclear Attack. Great player, shit songs and shit singing.

As far as i'm concerned angel witch is just as good as maiden and priest.

Awesome, look forward to the series.

How about some Alcatrazz, Wire and Wood? Might be too easy and non-metal for you though.

Technical proficiency doesn't make an entire band good, and it doesn't constitute heavy and/or Metal.

I'm sorry to step on any toes here, but if the entire band is not on par with the guitarist, it's shit.

Gary had a lot of good songs through the 80s. There's some great stuff on Corridor of Power & Victims of the Future. And while he doesn't have the most toneful voice, he was quite capable as a singer. I've heard a lot of live stuff and he always seemed able to sing in tune, something a lot of dedicated lead singers seem to have trouble with. Plus had some good co-lead singers in the band with him too, y'know, hacks like Jack Bruce, Neil Carter & Glenn Hughes
