I been listening to Death's Symbolic a bunch lately - really good stuff. Never really listened to them at all until this year. It was probably the alignment with "death metal" that kept me from them, since I listened to lighter, happier metal like Megadeth and Metallica, Exodus and Overkill, etc.

Chuck brought a lot of my favorite players out. Just look at his lineup; Steve DiGiorgio, JAMES MURPHY, Gene Hoglan, damn. Big fan of Death, and all Chuck did. Great hearing a fan and guitar hero (at least one of mine!) speak of Chuck in a mundane way:

          RIP Chuck.

Yesterday I pulled out my old Jackson Warrior (my only guitar tuned to D standard) and played along to the Symbolic album.

Those were the tunes that made me a deathmetal guitarist, as I learned them to prepare for my first band audition.

In retrospect the Death material just gets better and better, in my opinion, yet Chuck remains a vastly underrated guitarist and composer. I think his reputation will only continue to grow. It's a shame he had to go so young because I think he was nowhere near his peak. Talented guy.
