They probably want you in church on Sunday so you can only drink their wine! :ROTF:
And a friend of mine went somewhere in Virginia not too long ago to pick up her friend who lived there at the time, they went in a bar, ordered a couple shots... everyone in the bar looked at them like they were crazy, they said they didn't serve hard alcohol.

Yes. It was 18 to drink at one time, then I believe some time in the '80s they changed it to 21, at least here in NJ.

The Fed blackmailed the states to raise the drinking age by withholding highway maintenance funds to those who wouldn't change. I guess none of them could withstand the blackmail.

When I turned 18 that was the legal drinking age in Mississippi for beer only. At that time in Louisiana 18 was legal for everything. So we drove to Slidell across the state line and bought booze at the grocery stores, usually drinking on the way home. Luckily it was interstate driving, less danger on a limited access highway. Mississippi sells liquor only in package stores still today, and they close at 10PM. Of course you can drink at casinos 24/7 but you have to gamble, which I dislike.

Here you can buy beer and hard liquor from vending machines.

Some of the machines are turned off at 11PM or so, but it really doesn't matter, because a lot of bars are open until 5AM.

Although the drinking age is 20, nobody asks for ID, and I have yet to see anybody being refused alcohol at bars/restaurants for being/looking too young, either.

"Old Europe" does it for me. For example 24h sale in every gas station.

It was the mid 80's.. I recall cause I made my living playing in bars and if they were changing the drinking age it would effect the bars and us as well as our crowd draw and pay. Most states were 18-19 up until then.

                What the hell!?

                > The store I work in sold beer all day today, but we only have liquor by-the-drink in one bar,a private club, and the VFW,closest liquor store is 5 minutes away on the state line, and every place in town has to cut beer sales off at 3 am. When I moved here in 1984 from Akron,Ohio,Wal-Mart wasn't allowed to be open, because of the blue laws. The only things open were restaurants and gas stations for the first 5 years I lived here. It took the locals close to 20 years to get liquor by-the-drink voted in,finally passing about 6 years ago. Tommy D.
