• Is this a scam??

I got this e-mail supposedly from Ebay, but it doesn't address me by name. I'm not very active on the bay but have been a member for years. I've never seen this before.
I didn't reply... here's what I was sent:

Dear eBay customer,

During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedures, we have detected a slight error in your billing information.

This might be due to either of the following reasons:

1. A recent change in your personal information ( i.e.change of address).
2. Submiting invalid information during the initial sign up process.
3. An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due to an internal error within our processors.

Please update and verify your information by clicking the link below:

https://signin.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn

If your account information is not updated within 48 hours then your ability to sell or bid on eBay will become restricted.

Thank you

The eBay Billing Deptartment .

Yep, that's how they steal account info. I'm 99.999% sure it's a scam.

Em, take a look at where that link REALLY points to - I bet it's not really signin.ebay.com. What is displayed and where it's going could be completely different places - I've seen this sort of scam a lot.

I'm gonna go with YetAnotherOne and say it's a scam. I get like 20 fake/garbage e-mails a day, and that's one I came across also

Re: Is this a scam??

I went to the link and it took me to what looks similar to the Ebay sign-in page, but not quite. It's just one page with just the sign-in info, I didn't go any further than that and certainly didn't put in any info!!
Okay, good. I figured it was a scam.
Thanks!

Re: Is this a scam??

I get these all the time. Forward it to [email protected] so they can track 'em down. You will get a REAL email back from Ebay telling you that it was a fake, that they'll NEVER ask you to give such info through an email link. These things can also install a keystroke virus spyware on your computer, so don't jokingly give the bogus people some S info, they may still be able to read your sunsequent keystrokes and get your real info.
Just forward them to [email protected] and then delete them. Don't click on the links anymore at all.

Re: Is this a scam??

Ebay will always email you starting with:

Dear *ebay username*

PayPal will state your name, then your ebay username in the first sentence.

If you ever get a message asking for verification or your billing or personal info, close the email, open your browser, and go directly to the site you have to deal with, log in as normal, and check your profile... if you truly need to change or verify anything, it shouldn't be hard to find at that particular website.

Email all scams to "[email protected]", "[email protected]" or whatnot.
