  • Gun safe recommendations?

    My fellow 'Muricans.

Gun safes: Looking for a 20-30ish capacity.

Ideally no more than $1500. Just started to research them and have been looking at Liberty but am open to other brands.

Ideally 11 gauge steel (or thicker).

    Lock: mechanical dial or electronic?

    Thoughts? Recommendations? Dealers?

    I know: buy bigger!

    Thanks!

I bought a Liberty Fatboy Jr a couple of years ago from Lowe's. They had the best price hands down. My cost was right at $1100.00 tax and all. It's a great 48 gun safe. I went with the mechanical S&G lock on the Fatboy Jr. If things keep up next year like the past couple of years I'm going to have to buy another one because this one is about full. I shopped around, and when I bought mine it was Black Friday weekend. That's when I would try to narrow down a deal myself. Tractor Supply also has good prices and generally a large selection of safes too.

Definitely mechanical. Power/battery goes out and your e-lock ain't worth a flip.

Oh crap... there's a manufacturer in Gilroy or Watsonville... somewhere in that area. Build you custom and they deliver, you're not wasting a ton on drop shipment. They also dealt in vintage and used safes as well. For the life of me I can't remember their name, but they did everything you could ask for. Solid bolts, dual doors, really secure stuff and cheaper than equivalent Browning... Maybe they're not around anymore. They weren't really high profile even though they would do 3 and 4 door, multi-door wall safes and did commercial fireproof stuff as well. I couldn't find them online, sorry.

Ok I'll ask around and see if anyone I know knows of them. Thanks!
