  • Acoustic strings // Electric strings

    Alright guys.

Im after a set of 12s and the dodgy guitar shops near me keep turning up with acoustic strings. Is the only difference the wound 3rd string? Cos I actually prefer that...

    (Im downtuning)

I'm sure the composition is different as well.

You can buy almost any guage over 12 wound or unwound I believe.

Electric strings are nickel steel or steel or nickel, acoustic strings are made of phosphor bronze or different varations of that. Use electric strings on your electrics, order them online if the shops dont have them.

Acoustic strings aren't made entirely of magnetic materials like electric strings are. Your wound strings would be very weak sounding if you used acoustic strings on an electric. Plus finding the right string gauge might be a problem.
