  • Direct-mounting Blackouts singles in Predator?

Hey guys, I feel kinda stupid asking this - but I cant seem to figure this out.
I've put a set of Duncan AHB-2 and AS-1 in my Charvel Predator - and the neck-pickup screws are screwed into the body. My problem is that the screws supplied with the pickups are too short, so I can't get the pickup close enough to the strings to make it sound the way I want..There doesn't seem to be enough screw to mount the pickup AND adjust it high enough..
Do I just get longer screws? Will that give me a bit more room to adjust?

I also think the Blackouts sounds a bit midrangy/quacky on the light strings - has anybody with blackouts come across this, or have I wired something wrong? (I wasn't sure on wich pot to use on this setup.)
I have tons of output, and the three-way switch and volume works fine, so I don't know if my ears are too sensitive

Any help and ideas are appreciated!
