  • Maple fretboard cleaning-again

    Hi!

By chance I just happened to use a damp cloth on my maple fretboard, not soaking, just damp, and the 'board was as new...will this dry the neck out? Do I have to oil it every time?

Is the maple finished or raw? If it's finished with a clear coat you can use a damp cloth or even normal guitar polish. If it's unfinished wood, it's best to use an oil but a damp cloth should be ok.

Feelin' like I shoulda kept my feet on the ground
Waitin' for the sun to appear..."

As long as you don't let moisture seep under the frets it might be OK.
I was taught never use water anywhere near a fret board.
Lemon oil will clean the board just as easy.
0000 steel wool will clean a dirty maple board too and polish the frets at the same time.
      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

If you can find this http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/goo-gone-citrus-power-liquid-adhesive-remover/ID=prod6035192-product?ext=gooHousehold_PLA_Kitchen_ampersand_All _Purpose_Cleaners_prod6035192_pla&adtype={adtype}& Kpid=prod6035192&sst=6cd7c95c-9615-9828-12f0-00001b7f33d0

It works great for oiled necks. I use it on all unfinished maple, ebony and rosewood.

For sure, pussy is so much better for it.
