  • Help me identify this one...

So I have the chance to get this axe. The guy is from Germany - 5 star feedback - and was kind enough to send me videos and stuff but I did notice that there was no serial number on the neck plate. He claims he bought it from a shop in the US some 30 years ago for 1200 USD and it never occurred to him that it might not be an all original Jackson USA strat. The neck seems to be original, tho it comes with a repair, but the body I am sure it ain't. The neck plate is all black. He seemed really sad when I told him that no way this is an all original Jackson USA and he agreed to let it go for 500. What do you guyz think?
Maybe a BC Rich / Peavey / Custom japanese body? The number on the neck pocket reads 7826 If I am not mistaken.

I'd vote on a Westone body
But these images are pretty bad for identification... I am not even prepared to say it is an authentic neck because of it

Got a picture of the rear of the body. Need to see the control routing.

Body isn't a Jackson, don't think the neck is either. It's not badged right for a TM now if it said R on it sure. Jackson didn't do through neck locking nut, but that could be a mod???????that's just my opinion, someone with more knowledge of post 86 customs might think different

The neck is pre 1987, hence the "TM" instead for the "R" and the work order number is 7826 which dates back to 1986. Still trying to figure out about the body but I will post some some photos once the guitar is here. I pulled the trigger offered 500 euros

This is how an 86 headstock is badged

Added : 87 and later have the made in USA in front of the Jackson logo, could it be a shitty day, of course. I haven't seen one though and I look

I don't personally see anything wrong with the neck. as john said, the logo placements from that era could be variable. also I thought I has seen some jacksons with the thru-the-neck nut bolts, but I could definitely be wrong about that.

what would give me pause are the facts that 1. it's obviously a mutt, so the provenance of the individual parts will really never be known with certainty, and 2. the seller appears to know squat. that said, $500 is not that much to risk (assuming you get what's pictured), so hopefully the neck is solid and the guitar sounds good. looks kind of cool too, regardless. good luck!

Yes, they did. Everybody did it that way back then. Top-mounting nut came later.
