  • Need some ideas on knob placement on RR1, any pics?

Getting ready to mod my RR. Got a blank pickguard from Dave. Need some knob placement ideas. Anyone else done the same? Pics? TY.

Are you sticking to 3 knobs and a toggle? Was the original volume in the way of your picking hand?
    96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

Yes. very tight area. I will probably go inline from the bottom knob placement, following the edge of the pickguard towards the neck joint.
If I can squeeze 3 knob + switch, I do that. But, not a must.

Yeah, lined up along the bottom may work.
Or, maybe something like this? Perhaps a bit cluttered.

Maybe put the toggle up high, the knobs down low.

If it was me, I'd just put the toggle and a volume there.

2 Concentric V/T and a Freeway toggle in the middle. Boom.

Volume knob even with the edge of the Floyd, not inline with the pickup's rear coil.

+1 For only volume + toggle.

That's my RR3R, Dave did a great job. Not really cluttered everything out of the way. I don't mess with nob and crap when playing, lol
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

                  Thanks for the ideas.

                  out with the old......

                  in with the new...

I did a few mock ups prior to drilling the new pickguard. Went basic, volume and switch. Works well for me.

A pickup swap too! What did you install?

Nice simple control layout. That's all you need, really.

Rolled the dice on a match set of black magics from mojotone.
They are kind of a hybrid, combination of ceramic and A5 mags. In between a JB and a custom A8.
I have not yet plugged into the big rigs yet, but in the lil rig, the Neck pup was really, really good, that clear bell fluid vowel type tone.
I'll crank it up friday, see what happens. Yup, simple.

                      Edit to add:

Just cranked up the mojotone Black Magic pup set in the big rigs. Very nice.
The inherent Rhoads tone not diminished.
                      Neck pup, same as above.
Bridge pup, same as above, but better at volume. Still in between a JB/Custom A8 without the mid hump, it warms up very nicely when a lil roll down on the volume.
Bridge / neck together. Wow. very balanced. Kinda like when you have a really good LP and both pups are on. that.

New nut on the way ( OEM nut is weirdly off spaced).
