  • Down tuning requiring mods?

If I were to replace the strings with a 5 set (throw away the .45) and drop tune my JS3 4 string bass to a B, would I also have to replace the nut and tuners? Would I also need to drill larger holes in the bridge? The B would be a .130. I toyed with the idea before, but was told "just buy a 5 string bass". I did that, but am finding it uncomfortable to play.

I would definitely think you would need to carve out the nut.
Tuners are,,, it varies. Depending on what you have. Same with the bridge. Maybe yes. Maybe no.

But, I have said the same thing to guitar players - just buy a bass.

Well, just about every pitch shifter I've tried sounds fake. I've pre-ordered an EHX Bass9, so that will be fun to try out.
