  • Tell me about the early nineties kip winger futura basses.

I'm looking to get one of these. For some reason I can't access the audiozone catalogs. I had a few questions for you resident jackson bass gurus.

-Whats the neck like, thinner than a typical p bass?
-I see there are two kinds of bridges on the professional models, whats the difference
-Whats a fair price for one of the neck-through professional models, is there a price difference for the various kinds of bridges?

    Thanks,
    Garrett

I think they used the same neck specs on about 20 models back then

one has the Kahler on it, one has the Jackson bridge. one of the fellow members here has both versions of the Winger one with the P/J Jackson bridge 3 knob, one with the 4 knobs/EMG/Kahler bridge. I had a futura EX for a while, and honestly it sounded like the rest of them I still own..

I also have a Concert and TBX with the Kahler bridges..different, yes. Better/worse...naw...

I also emailed audiozone to tell them the catalog scans pages were erroring out.

I prefer the Kahler bridge because you can adjust the string spacing easily. The Winger I had was an awesome bass and I can't for the life of me remember why I sold it. Beautiful bass, without a doubt.
Killer tone and playability as well.

I actually have one of the non kahler bridged ones, gonna post a thread about it in a few minutes. The only thing is the neck profile is pretty fat (almost identical to my fender p), otherwise it is the perfect bass for me. When I bought it I was really hoping for a thin neck, so I was wondering if there are similar jackson basses with the thinner necks I keep hearing about.

I just bought a 92 JX, so I'll check it out this weekend to see what difference there is, and what it compares to.

I find the neck on the import Concert V to be thin for a bass, but that could also be due to it being a 5-string. The later C5P neck feels similar in profile, while the JZB2 feels a lot like a Jazz bass (as one would expect). That's the only 4-string bass I have, though.

what the hell is a JZB2 compared to a JZB?

I totally forgot about the C5 neck..ya now that thing IS really flat on the back, and although I like it a lot compared to x-brand 5stringer, I'm looking for a lefty ( if they even made any ), and IF they did and someone somewhere is selling one, I'll sell my righty C5 and 3 other "B" series charvels in an instant for it. -- I'm anticipating the cost will be very high!!!

The JZB2 was a USA production model similar to the other "2" models (SL2, DR2, etc with no inlays) but with import hardware and pickups, while the JZB was (from what I can tell) more or less a limited-run CS model.

It looks a lot like this:

In fact, it looks just like that.

                    Because that's it

oh ya that's nice as hell, man I would love that with my JX's beakhead or that Sandimas painted black to fuck with the Fender-Boys and their pickguard fetishes.!!!
ok so if the JZB and JX series are similar bodies with the standard-4 plate hookup and not the funky different style used on the Futuras and others, do you think that this is the bodystyle that spawned the Futura body?

Futura is definitely a dinky-Jazz shape.

And I was wrong - mine didn't have the Kahler bridge.

I know this thread is old as hell, but NEWC, do you still have that JZB2?

A guy on ebay asked me why his has a maple fretboard, and I never found any info more than the rosewood like yours had.
