Maybe someone likes the "tone" of the softer metal on the trem plate who knows. LIke for example Caparison guitars use the schaller trem pretty much exclusively on their guitars now i dont know if its a cost cutting thing or do they think its good enough or maybe they like the tone better.

Wild theory, but given that Chushin Gakki staff created Caparison in 1995, and the JT590 was the "top standard-issue tremolo" at the time for Japanese and American Jacksons, maybe the reason for Caparison to use the Schaller Tremolo was familiarity with the JT590.

Thanks, fellas. I'm going Lockmeister or Gotoh!

I believe if the neck is 12" Radius at the locknut,
43mm /// 1-11/16 wide, you would use the
            Floyd Rose R3 locknut
            or the Other Brand Equivalent.

If the neck is 10" Radius at the locknut,
43mm /// 1-11/16 wide, you would use the
            Floyd Rose R4 locknut
            or the Other Brand Equivalent.

            The difference being the Radius.

I also believe that which ever Brand you decide on, there is a Nut Size to choose from.
May be an additional cost, may be included.

Wait for more precise details from

            Number Of The Priest

            Razor

            Possibly

I can't remember who all knows the Tremolo Systems.
            I replaced a badly abused JT580LP with
OFR a few months ago. Kept the factory locknut on it.
This is on a Jackson Eerie Dess Swirl. Works great!.
If you haven't yet, I recommend reading through that
            Audiozone link.

Thanks for the reply. This is a 12 to 16 compound radius. I am going for the Gotoh GE1996T. This will be a direct drop in from what I am gathering. So I will also purchase the Gotoh locking nut. I found the right width and radius.

Not much more I can add to what has been stated by rjohnstone and Number Of The Priest

From everything I seen and read the past couple of years the Gotoh GE1996T would get serious consideration from me if I were looking to upgrade a trem.

For tuners 10mm Gotoh's should get the job done. I'm pretty sure I used an R3 nut on my Jolly Roger Model 2/Musikraft mutt. I figure the size does boil down to personal preference on the string spacing a bit also.

It should be an R3 nut, but not all nuts or DK2s are created equal.

The Schaller I bought in late 2019 had the steel reinforcements in the screw holes. It was going in a guitar routed for the JT-590 but I actually like that bridge. Also magnet doesn't stick to the body so it's not steel. Must still be zinc. The saddles are cast but they must be a cast steel because a magnet does stick to them.

                        JT-590 is a Schaller bridge.

Not sure if you were talking to me but you are correct. So the Schaller dropped right in to my guitar routed for the JT- 590.

Yes, I was just clarifying for someone that wouldn't know that a 590 is a schaller, or made by schaller.
