  • Kelly Professional STD question

    Hey everyone,

I recently bought a Kelly Professional STD. The guy I bought it from said it was a 1994, which would make sense. The serial # however is J 0007XX which is a sticker on the back of the headstock.

This would make it a 1990 according to the information I have seen on this forum about the Professional series serial #s. However, I have also read that the STD professionals didn't start until 1993 and ended in 1995.

I checked the neck pocket and the neck is stamped "KE STD" and pocket "KL STD 3-1"

    Pickups are "JH-2 10•8" and "J-50 N 10•2"

    No date stamps anywhere.

    Any thoughts?

According to the Jackson 1993 catalog

The Kelly was only available as a Custom Shop guitar before 1993.

Check out page 27 of that PDF.

Good info. If you look in the 90/91 catalog, the only guitars in the professional series are the PRO models, so it would make sense my Kelly STD is a 94, but I wonder why the serial # starts with a 0.

Those stickers weren't date coded and there's no way to de-code them to my knowledge.
They were used on models without a neck plate in the mid -90s, so it'd be one of the couple years the STD was offered.
        96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.
