  • Soloist comparison

I was just wondering if anyone could make a recommendation or share some information regarding the difference between a older soloist and a slightly newer model. Imo they both feel the same and it’s probably a stupid question to be asking but if anyone has any experience and could give some info regarding which is a better guitar it would be greatly appreciated. I should mention they are both $500 Canadian.

The guitars are very similar. Better is subjective. The main difference is the body wood, mahogany vs alder. The SL2Q MAH is mahogany (designated by the MAH). They also have different pickups, which is less of an issue with the MAH having what looks like the TB6 and the other the TB4. The MAH should be more expensive as mahogany is simply a more expensive wood.

In terms of sound the body wood can make a very big difference, and means a ton to me personally. This is highly subjective. I would make sure to play both of them and make your decision. Some people say there is no difference in sound on electric guitars with different body woods. In my experience, I have owned three different guitars made out of mahogany and have ditched all three because I hated the sound. One Jackson, one Gibson, and a Schecter. I have Jacksons made with alder, basswood and poplar and really enjoy all of them.
