  • JDR94 Control Cover/Backplate

Hello, All. I recently purchased the body of a JDR94 that I am going to use in building my own "Frankenstein" guitar. The body did not come with a backplate for the control cavity. In searching Ebay, it looks like backplates for Jackson/Charvels come in all different shapes and sizes, and are rather hard to come by (thus expensive, relative to what you would pay for a standard Strat pickguard, LP backplate, etc.) I can sorta eye what looks to be the right one from pictures, but since I am new to Jackson guitars and haven't done a lot of work with them, I am unsure which one is the exact right size. Does anyone here have knowledge of this subject, who could tell me which backplates are interchangeable between which models. Just trying to avoid throwing 30-40 bucks at a piece of plastic that doesn't fit.

Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance for your assistance!

You can order replacements from Dave at http://www.fretsonthenet.com/ . I have bought stuff for my old Charvels from him and he is super awsome and knowledgable.

Should be able to find one for under twenty..charvel and Jackson dink body after 87 should work, I'll try and get a link for you.

I have a spare from my SL3 and I have a JDR-94. I'll look later on and let you know if they're the same size.

Sorry, still not checked - the kids are still up! Just thinking though - I don't think the JDR-94 has a recessed backplate, so you could use anything and just drill new holes for it?

Okay, tried it and the SL3 backplate fits EXACTLY. While I was at it I took out my DK2S and that's the same size too so...I'd guess pretty much any MIJ backplate will fit. Why don't you try ebay seller bjboydent? He sells all sorts of old parts for good prices. http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/bjboydent

Honestly, I don't think I'll ever need the backplate I have - I replaced the trem on my SL3 and the replacement hangs out the back slightly. I'd give you it for nothing, the only problem is, shipping from the UK would probably cost as much as just buying one from the US!
See how you get on with bjboydent or Dave at fretsonthenet.com (who is a great guy) and if you're still stuck, come back and let me know.

Thanks for all of the replies and helpful input everybody. I hit up Dave at fretsonthenet.com, and he was extremely helpful and easy to work with. Got the backplate within a matter of a few days at a reasonable price, and it fits perfectly! Now I have a whole other issue with this project and the intonation (which I'm about to detail in another thread), but thanks to everyone for your efforts in helping me get the backplate question answered. Cheers!
