  • Import ATL Scott Ian soloist first thoughts review.

Picked it up today and I'm really pleased with it.
Fit and finish is very nice and it plays really well right out of the box.
Neck is fantastic feeling just a bit thicker than my 85 San Dimas soloist custom.
The Duncan designed pick up screams to be honest.
The frets are very well done and finished properly not the norm for a MIC guitar from Jackson. The binding is really very well done.
Very solid feeling and has some heft to it.Rosewood board is nice as are the ATL inlays.
Looks to be 204 of 250 made going by the serial number.
Small headstock logo which is pleasing to look at.
I do know the run of these were done in one batch in June of 2012.
I will try to get better pics up soon but this is all I have for now.

Cleaned and oiled the fretboard, new strings and tried a 90's covered J-50 B pick up. Looks kinda cool but not really right for this guitar so may stick and old 70's double creme DiMarzio Super D and see how that sounds/looks. You think a double creme would detract from the looks or add some old school vibe?

Randal Flagg, a man who truly stands out among the living! Cool axe. Anthrax is one of the tops in my book mainly because of Scott.

I may may have to throw some on for my listening pleasure.
Any way you could possibly put more shit into your sig?

I think the double cream would look ok, I say go for it.

When I first saw these I wasn't all that impressed.I never even took it off the wall just figuring it was a POS.
Played it a month later and really looked it over and the build quality is really good.
Maybe they just took extra care building these because it was a limited run who knows.
Even the hardware is really nice and I wasn't expecting that.Great bang for the buck.

The black pickups blend in a little better, but the cream looks fine.
