Kelly X series (KEXTMG specifically)

What's the deal with the availability of these guitars? I ordered one a couple of weeks ago (in the UK) but it was a mistake by the shop, as they don't actually have any in stock. Looking around, there isn't a single one for sale ANYWHERE. Even in the US, these are all out of stock.

I was told by the shop they'd have one in May if I wanted to leave my order in place but I told them "no thanks" since they'd been advertising stock they didn't have which is out of order IMO.

So - why are these guitars not for sale? Did they have problems? Or did they sell much better than expected and the factory couldn't keep up (which seems highly doubtful). I don't see many threads on here about them.

web sites for months now. Weren't they originally touted as 'Limited Edition' in 2012?

No idea. I think SOME of them were limited edition but I was under the impression the X series was going to be Jackson's new import line? So there's NO medium spec Kelly available now?

I think your right, there was a separate Limited Edition model.

What? You found a guitar that cleary ISN'T a KEXTMG since it's a bolt-on, and a guitar with a painted neck which as far as I can tell isn't standard on these (although I'm literally just about to buy that one hahaha!)

I love my KEXTMG. I saw someone on another forum had some pretty horrific quality control issues (sharp fret edges, sloppy glue, rusted frets), but mine arrived with no issues at all. Enjoy!

Sweet! Love the bass! How's the finish on the Kelly? The seller I got mine from says there's some marks from people handling it (I got the one they had on the shop floor for a year so I'm guessing they'd have made sure any dodgy frets or anything would have been sorted out).


Oh, and is that an Akerfeldt PRS? If I ever buy another guitar (hahaha, as if that's in question!) it'll be a PRS Custom 24. The Opeth Lamentations DVD where both Mikael and Peter are using them (and not playing watered down prog-bullshit!) is a favourite of mine, still.

The finish is matte, and seems to be pretty solid so far. If there are any marks from handling, I'd think they'd come off with just a damp cloth. You don't want to use any type of polish on it since it is matte. I just use a microfiber cloth, slightly dampened and it seems to work well.

The PRS is a 2001 Singlecut. I swapped out all the creme parts (tuners, pickup rings, toggle cap) for black, replaced the original PRS stoptail with an adjustable stoptail, and replaced the stock PRS #7 bridge pickup with a BareKnuckle Painkiller.

The PRS wrap around bridge is about as good as it gets why on earth change it?
I have had 6 PRS SE's and all have had perfect intonation.

It intonated perfectly when using standard string gauges like 9-42, 10-46, 11-54. I prefer light top heavy bottoms like 10-52 or 11-56. When using those gauges the G string would never intonate perfectly.
