  • Jackson SLATXMG3-6 soloist guitars

    hi all,
for those who have played one, what do you feel about the slatxmg3 model? i recently got one (so i can sell my jackson slxq since i have two). not sure if it's because it's a new guitar--and new toys sometimes always seems better than old ones --but i feel the quality of the slatxmg is a tad bit better than the slxq. both have quilt veneer top, but the slatxmg3 is archtop and since it supposedly got graphite reinforcement in the neck so it doesn't have the common cracking at the neck joint of the slx models. i think the neck radius of the two models is supposed to be the same but it seems the slatxmg3 is actually a bit different? of course the pups in the slatxmg3 are emgs, where as the slxq are emg-hz pups (i swapped out mine). there's also some confusion of whether the slatxmg3 is basswood or mahogany. some say it's just the spec sheet when they came out was wrong; other says the first 500 were basswood and post-500 serial number are mahogany.... does anyone here know for sure what's the deal with the wood?

i'm interested to hear what others more experienced have to say about these tow models...
    thanks!

    now for some porn:
    the two together

Got my new SLATMGXQ3-6 last Friday and love it! Mine looks like yours as in mahogany....the top is a real maple cap though, not a veneer on this model. My top is very quilted, even more so than yours. Mine needed some intonating, but other than that is came shipped to me pretty nicely. Low action, no fret buzz..I dig it!

i guess mine has maple cap, too....
your serial number, last three digits, is beyond 500? mine is below. how can one tell for sure if the body mahogany? i think mine is basswood, based on the wood grain. but i'm not sure.

Yes..my serial is well above 500...It feels heavy to me compared to my DX10 which is basswood....has more bass..both guitars have the same emg set so you can tell the difference in tone.

Can you take another close up of the back to really show the grain? From what images of mahogany I have found off of google, it has a very straight grain structure to it. For what it's worth my last 3 numbers are 903.

              Nice git-fiddles guys.

I am thinking about getting an active pickup loaded guitrar and the SLATs are something I'm looking at. Are these from the Jackson Series that are made in Indonesia?

Yes, from Indonesia and so far the fit and finish is really nice and plays, sounds great!
