  • What pot is in a Model 4?

I need to replace my volume pot in my model 4. It has the active electronics - Pre-amp Midrange boost/cut.
My volume pot is bad - It makes a very loud pop when it is turned - I need to figure out the correct one to use. Would a EMG pot work?

in a model 4 the mid boost is connected directly to the pot. I believe they are 500ohm, an emg pot may work ok but it is not the same ohm rating and you will have to be good at soldering!

      I don't know. I didn't inhale

I don't think any pot is 500ohms. Maybe 500K ohms, but not on an active circuit.

I'd guess 25K to 50K like an EMG.

The pot will have markings on it to tell you what it is.

I'd suggest you try cleaning it first. Replacing it can be a PITA.

Thanks DonP I forgot the K! I took the back plate off several of my model 4 5 and 6's and you can not see the value for the ground wires soldered there but on my 475 models they are visible and are 50K ohm sorry puddy for the mis information!

I found them on ebay once, they were Alpha pots, originally used in mixing desks if that helps 50k 18mm shaft
