I saw this auction when it was happening and was excited to see you put up a thread about it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

I had the original locking nut from my 750XL off the other day so I could clean up the fretboard and to some leveling and it was marked 'R4'. Below is a link to a Floyd Rose nut spec chart in case you want to see details:

LOL, I am anxious to see how it turns out myself LOL. I just bought another 750 in trans yellow yesterday so I am really trying to come up with ideas for this one. The finish is beautiful and I dont see how the maple could be matched in filling the middle route, installing a center pickup is the best option so far but i am concerned as someone else mentioned because thats where I would be picking at and I dont want to be hitting the pickup.

So I am tring to think outside of the box on this and would love some ideas, a buddy of mine said turn it into a smoker like on of my JDR94's which is indeed a smoker ala ace frehley and obviously he knows nothing lol. Someone suggested some type of Charvel Logo which isnt too bad. Maybe some graphic plate?

So my guitar guy is going to start on the neck first to give me some time to make up my mind

Thanks for the info on the floyd! My guitar guy will get the actual nut off fairly soon. He got a little behind and he is actually doing some minor work to the white 650XL I just recently got.

Actually, a plate isn't a bad idea at all if you decide not to put in a middle pickup. Looking at mine, there is only a ~1 inch gap in between the pickup rings which would be a tight fit for a single pickup and mounting ring. But, if you could get a thin custom plate made to mount between the two, that could be a cool look. Like you said, maybe engrave the lipstick Charvel logo, or a simple 750XL or even just a plate that is color matched to the red/maroon edges for a clean contrast.

does anyone know what kind of tuners I need for this. I need gold ones. I laready ordered the trem and nut. FYI this one had an R3 nut

We are going to go ahead and try to fill the middle route and insert a piece of flamed maple. the lines may always be there but i think this will be best

Right now he's starting on the neck. He is going to take some pictures so when he does I will make sure to post them

I believe mini Schaller or Gotoh inlines should fit. The stock tuners were Gotohs, I believe.

well I did order the GusG blackouts so now all the parts are ordered. I am still hopefull of a possible completion by Xmas but that keeps getting challenged by myself because I keep giving him other stuff to do. Just picked up the white 650XL I just acquired about a month ago last Saturday and am more than pleased, she plays beautiful!

So now I have to do what I am not very good at..waiting

                  ugh

Well unfortunately my luthier has had a catastrophic eye injury and cannot do any of the work on this nightmare. Anyone interested?

With the center pickup hole, is it feasible to fill it, then apply a inside out opaque burst from the middle? At least you'll hide the fill job and still have some transparency for that nice grain. I don't know to what extent you'll need to strip and refinish the guitar but I'm guessing it can be done without molesting the binding and the neck.

you asked about stainless steel frets, they're awesome. probably overkill if you only use light gauge strings however. I don't think luthiers like wearing out their tools on them very much on top of the fact they don't require as much maintenance.
